About the Trip

Gokarna is a relaxed coastal town on Karnataka's Konkan coast, famous for its beautiful beaches, laid-back vibe, beach treks, and spiritual energy. This 2-day itinerary from Bangalore combines adventure (coastal trek to Om Beach), beach camping, a historic fort visit, and an optional day trip to nearby coastal and waterfall attractions like Murudeshwara, Honnavar, and Jog Falls.

Distance & travel note: Driving distance from Bangalore to Gokarna is roughly 480–500 km and typically takes 9–10 hours depending on route and traffic.

Recommended Itinerary

Day 0 — Night Departure (Friday Night)

Start from Bangalore: 7:00 PM (Friday evening) — leave early to avoid late-night city traffic and reach coastal Karnataka by morning.

Drive via NH48 / NH66 (choose route based on live traffic). Overnight driving helps you arrive early and make the most of the first day.

Day 1 — Beach Trek, Campsite & Mirjan Fort (If Time Permits)

Gokarna Day 1 - Beach Trek and Coastal Views

Early Morning – Arrival & Check-in (≈ 8:00–9:00 AM)

Arrive at your beach-side campsite or guesthouse near Gokarna. Check in and freshen up. Have a hearty breakfast to prepare for a day of trekking and beaches.

Beach Trek – Belekan → Paradise → Half Moon → Om Beach

Start point: Often the trek begins near Belenkan (Belenkanti / Belekan) Beach or the northern approach depending on your campsite.

The coastal trek is scenic — you'll walk along cliffs, soft sand stretches, and secluded coves. Expect intermittent ups and downs; wear comfortable walking shoes.

Paradise Beach and Half Moon Beach are quiet, postcard-perfect coves — great for photos and short swims (if safe).

Final stop: Om Beach (shaped like the Om symbol) — popular for food shacks, sunset views, and relaxed beach vibes.

Optional: Mirjan Fort (Historic Stop)

If time allows after the trek, visit Mirjan Fort — a few kilometres from Gokarna, known for its picturesque ruins and coastal views. This makes a nice late-afternoon cultural stop before returning to camp.

Evening – Dinner & Bonfire

Return to the campsite by evening (~6–8 PM). Enjoy a filling dinner (many camps offer unlimited veg & non-veg options) and relax around a bonfire. Overnight at the campsite or a beachside guesthouse.

Day 2 — Murudeshwara, Honnavar & Optional Jog Falls

Gokarna Day 2 - Murudeshwara, Honnavar and Jog Falls

Early Morning – Check Out & Breakfast

Check out after an early breakfast and start the day trip loop along the coast.

Murudeshwara – Famous Shiva Statue & Temple

Visit Murudeshwara, home to one of the world's tallest Shiva statues and a dramatic temple complex by the sea.

Driving time from Gokarna: ~ 1–2 hours, distance approximately 77–80 km depending on route.

Honnavar – Sharavati Backwaters & Boating

Continue to Honnavar for a serene boating experience on the Sharavati backwaters if available.

Honnavar offers peaceful coastal scenery and is a good mid-day stop for lunch.

Optional: Jog Falls (Time and Long-Weekend Considerations)

If timing and energy permit (and you did not leave on a long weekend traffic day), head inland to Jog Falls — one of India's highest waterfalls and often listed among the top falls in Karnataka. Jog Falls is usually cited as one of India's tallest plunge falls (often referenced as the third-highest plunge); visiting adds a spectacular nature finale to your trip.

Note: This will add significant driving time; skip on busy long weekends.

Return to Bangalore (Night Drive)

After Murudeshwara/Honnavar (and optional Jog), begin your return to Bangalore by late evening.

Expected arrival back in Bangalore: early morning (≈ 4:00–5:00 AM) depending on stops and traffic.
